We are pleased to announce our search for the next Executive Director (ED) for Southwest Baltimore Charter School (SBCS). This unique opportunity comes at a pivotal point as the Founder and Executive Director of 17+ years, moves into a new chapter and passes the torch to the next ED to take SBCS into its bright future. SBCS opened their doors in 2005 and was built around parent involvement, neighborhood connection, and curricular commitment. SBCS today is a special place that offers a sense of community, connection, and friendship shared among the entire staff. Turnover is low because teachers not only feel heard but also because they are empowered. Simply put, SBCS provides an opportunity to its staff to leverage their passion and knowledge to teach and engage students in ways not possible in other teaching institutions.
The next season for SBCS will be one of moving from strength to strength, giving the new Executive Director an opportunity to build on a solid foundation. The successful candidate should bring both vision and concrete management/implementation skills commensurate with three primary executive priorities: 1) preserve and promote the SBCS vision and mission with both internal and external stakeholders, 2) successful day-to-day operations and longterm success of the school, and 3) provide leadership for emerging initiatives that advance the overall goals of SBCS.
Reporting to the Board of Directors and working in collaboration with the Principal, the new ED should be a person with a deep love for serving children, families and the community. S/He should have strong management and fundraising acumen, as well as a vision for growth and partnership. Patience and empathy will be critical personal characteristics for the successful candidate as s/he will be expected to lead by example.
